You know Meltdown, but what is Winedown?
Winedown offers seasonal Irish food and divine wine served in a relaxed and funky atmosphere. Think sharing plates and set menus with wine pairing.
Winedown has been developed by women for women. Founder Maeve O'Malley has worked with Nadine Savage on the interiors, Tara Stewart to create the playlist, Sarah Moloney (as always) did the branding, Nichola Hughes has put together the wine list, Fatti Burke did a huge mural as you go up the stairs to the intimate space, and Kate Dillon is working on keeping everyone updated via socials with her mad photography skills. All this has been made possible with Bruna Machado and Chris Matsuno keeping the standards up in Meltdown while Winedown was being created.
Winedown offically opened Friday the 4th of December 2020. We had an overwhelmingly positive start, and are delighted to reopen again in Spring 2021!
Using and promoting Irish suppliers and produce is an important part of our mission at Winedown. We looked far and wide to compile a list of suppliers who create and source spectacular produce right here at home. We believe in the quality of Irish produce and see it as a more sustainable option, promoting Ireland as a food destination while aiming to reduce our impact by reducing waste and harmful substances.
Carraignamuc Cottage Organic Fruit & Veg is a family run business based in Knockananna, Wicklow Hills, run by Phil Coffey. Phil and his family have their own market garden of about an acre and a half in size, complete with polytunnels and a packing shed with a walk-in fridge. Their own organically grown vegetables are supplemented with a wide variety of firstly locally grown organic produce, and when that is not available, organic veg imported from Europe. Almost every dish on our menu contains organic homegrown produce from Carraignamuc.
At Winedown, we are constantly thinking of new ways to provide our customers with the best seafood in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner. Fresh Seafood makes up a large portion of our menu, and we are pleased to be supplied by Glenmar Shellfish, which has a great reputation for being as environmentally friendly as possible. Glenmar Shellfish has been serving the export fishing industry for over thirty years, and they work very closely with the local Irish fishing communities and the Sea Fisheries Protection Authority, staying up to date on the latest harvesting updates and bringing only the best to our customers' tables.
Little Italy provides us with everything for our Italian dreams! Importers, distributors, and specialists of fine Italian food and wine. Little Italy was the first Italian gourmet food shop in Ireland. Here at Winedown we pride ourselves on our premium quality food and wine, which we wouldn’t be able to do without this fabulous family owned Irish business.
We are extremely proud to say that McLoughlin Butchers is our primary meat supplier. The team collaborates with us to ensure that the meat is of the highest quality and that the traceability is transparent. Their focus on service and quality is at the heart of their business, and ultimately at the heart of ours.
We're all about cheese (of course), being Meltdown's sister, and we're thrilled to be supplied by Sheridan's for our Winedown menu. We focus on supporting Irish products, and every time we shop at Sheridans, we have a wonderful experience. We want to participate, taste, and learn as we shop, and they offer all of that and more!
